Thank you Mrs. Hastings, Ms. Roux and Ms. Bacon

Here I am, more than 20 years post high school using Algebra and Geometry every day as a quilter.  Yep, every day, I can hardly believe it myself, with how hard I found Algebra 2 of the 4 years I took it.  (I failed Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 and had to take them a second time!)  Geometry came amazingly easy to me and I’m grateful I can figure out the lengths of triangles, rectangles, hexagons and loads of other things.  masterpiece-1

The other day as I worked on a pattern for Benartex I discovered a huge problem.  Using my understanding of Geometry and Algebra I was able to not only figure out the problem but describe the problem and let them now how much of a difference there would be in the end result.  Now I get to figure out all of the math to rewrite the directions.  I’m enjoying the challenge and enjoying the problem solving.

Thank you to each of you for making math accessible and taking the time to explain in a way that I understood!

  1. Ha, I had to laugh when I read your blog. I was terrible in High School math. Suffered terribly through Algebra 1. And now as a quilter I use math all the time. I don’t think I could do what you did, but I congratulate you on being able to figure out the problems. We need someone like you to help us out.
