Meeting Mickey and more quilts

Mickey DePre and I met on The Quilt Show and have been facebook friends forever.  I love her unique style of quilts, sense of humor and passion for quilting.  Mickey has been a great mentor as well encouraging me through some serious periods of doubt where I’d wanted to toss in the quilting towel, run to my room and hide never to be seen again.  We encouraged each other through our hysterectomies.  There were so many wonderful facebook quilters who encouraged both of us.

We’ve talked on the phone so meeting Mickey in person was a great delight no matter how short the time.  She was in her classroom at Maine Quilts where Linda Hahn, Janet-Lee Santeusanio, Jackie (sorry I don’t know her last name) and I met for lunch.  Here is Linda and Mickey with the book pose.  These two are a hoot.  As an aside there is a sweet photo of Linda and I on facebook, she’s kissing my head. 🙂

Mickey has a new book coming out in September titled, “Pieced Hexies – A New Tradition in English Paper Piecing”.  This is really something amazing and quite scrappy and all about hand work.  Mickey’s blog has some photos and info.

One of the most unique quilts I’ve seen in a long time is this one “In Celebration of Tatting”. The white on here is tatted lace.  So pretty.  My dmil purchased a kit to start tatting sometime ago and we never got to it.  I’ve got to find the kit and add this to my list of things to do.  Knowing how fun knitting is having this as handwork will be fun.

And then there is this beautiful quilt.  I love how the quilter added texture to this triptych.  It’s really dynamic.

I’m off to spend the day with my sweetie.  I think we’re going to see Pippin tonight somewhere.  Have a good day!

Teri

  1. I love this quilt! I want to get back into some art quilting so bad, I just don’t know how. But this quilt is truly inspiring.
Did you get to see Pippin?
