I’m leavin’ on a jet plane

Oh wait, that’s Monday when I leave for Portland to teach at MQX.  I just heard that Aurifil gives each student a spool of thread!  What a great way for students to get started with the good stuff.  At the banquet on Friday everyone goes home with a cone of Superior thread – I think it’ll be Magnifico again and if so this quilter is so excited.  I love this thread!  There is still room in my classes and I’d love to have you as a student!

I’m also teaching And Now What?! (Designs in Machine Quilting)  and Beginner Free Motion Machine Quilting at Quilt Festival in  Houston.  I am also participating in the Open Studio on Thursday from 2 – 4 PM demonstrating quilted cards.

I visited the SewCalGal site this morning and a few participants have already posted links to their completed tutorials.  They are quite fun to look at!  Way to go quilters!  One of the quilters commented that she practiced several times on paper before committing to cloth, Yes!! that’s exactly right, work that muscle memory.

Last Saturday at Hartsdale I had 10 students for Beginner Free Motion Quilting.  I love teaching beginners, oh heck I just love teaching quilting.  These gals were a riot and I’m hoping they all sign up for the Advanced class in December.  Yesterday I ran into one of my students from a previous class, Marilyn.  Her mom is a member of the Village Squares Quilters.  Marilyn sent pics of one of her recent quilts with permission to post her pics.

Here’s a pic of the overall quilt.

One of the things I talk about in class is either labeling or signing your quilt.  And Marilyn did just that!  Writing our name is actually one of the most intuitive things we do as we’ve been writing it since oh probably the 3rd grade.  We know how we write so well that translating it out to writing it with our machines is nearly as intuitive.  On Saturday one of the students mentioned she does a cursive/print hybrid.  Me too!  (see the SewCalGal tutorial) so we can still do it.

If you’re local there are 2 classes at Hartdale 12/14 and 12/29.

Have a quilterly day!

  1. You are a traveling fool this month!!! HooRah for Team Teri! I just joined the Magnifico Thread of the Month from Superior and last week got three cones of this yummy thread! I am half way done with quilting my piece for SewCalGal! (this work thing really is interfering with my sewing!)
