15 Minutes of Play and more

15 minutes of play 001

Victoria Findlay-Wolf has a glint of play in her smile.  An inviting, impish glint and her new book “15 minutes of play – Improvisational Quilts” is an invitation to that…PLAY…you know the type of play when we were little and the laughter would spill forth

we would run with wild abandon enjoying the sun splashing on our faces

rain would be something fun and inviting

snow would be an opportunity to meet our friends

I had a delightful lunch with Victoria and Stephanie Forsythe of The Fiber Nation at Eataly.  We had a bit of fun at The City Quilter first and I came home with some gray Cherrywood fat quarters.  Lunch was play, simply pleasurable play.  We shared appetizers, had some amazing pasta and then some amazing cheese and dessert. There is something beautifully playful eating good food and sharing great company.

So back to the book, Victoria shares her experience of how she’s come to her her style as a quilt maker her influences and her joy.  In part this 15 minutes of play came from being a new mom and needing to incorporate creativity into her day.  I’d like to encourage you to get Victoria’s book and incorporate 15 minutes of play into your day as a quilter.  Play with no forethought and no plan as to where this particular quilt is heading, play with reckless abandon and joy.  Quilting is fun and playful!  When you think it’s not do something creative and fun to bring you back to that creative playful.

a day in the city 033

Of course the wrought iron caught my attention.

a day in the city 053

Wrought iron here, wrought iron there oh the artistry of wrought iron!

I’ll be back in a few days with more including some photos of Stephanie.
