It’s been a while since I’ve participated in a blog tour on TerifiCreations, as I write most of the Generation Q Magazine book tours. This one is kind of special because a friend, John Kubiniec, wrote the book. Over the last couple of years I’ve watched John work on this book. I’ve watched him struggle, grow, become, move, write, and name quilts. And here his is, A New Spin on Drunkards Path is ready for you to run to your local quilt shop and get it.
I was surprised to learn that John uses 3 pins to stitch these curves the placement is key to how well this works. I must admit that when I saw it I did the whole *facepalm* why didn’t I think of that! And. . . it makes so very much sense. I so want to tell you this trade secret but book, it’s all about buying the book, and this tip is worth it.
Then there’s the patterns, the spins or to have a little fun, the hacks on this block are fun. Having fun with a curved pieced block yields this:
A dynamic, beach ready quilt. And yes, go ahead, take the quilt to beach.
Nightfall is one of the most dynamic looking quilts in the entire book. It looks so difficult. But nope. John adds half-square triangles to the corners, spends a little time getting the placement right by alternating the curve of the drunkards path block and the results are stunning. I may even make this one, when I have some time for quilting.
Okay so what you really need to know is that I’m really proud of John. While he doesn’t exactly say it out loud in the book there is a sense of play, and permission to do what you want. Here’s the technique, here’s a great pattern, and go.

Our neighbor always holds a cookie and gift exchange in December. My gift is always something I’ve sewn. This year it’s a table runner. I love making Christmas stuff!
I remember John from city quilter. Love his work and I’d love to make the beach balls quilt. Right now I’m working on the Tula Pink City Sampler 100days100blocks project on Instagram.
I’m working on my row by row and an I Spy baby quilt. I love doing drunkard path blocks.
I’m working on a FL row by row quilt. My rows are from 2014-2016. It’s been fun working on them.
I’m working on finishing up a mystery quilt from last year before the one for this year comes out in about a month. I think I can do it, it’s good motivation!
I can’t tell you without pictures, lol. The blocks are embroidered denim with an applique of chambray and another of toile. It might be a ‘what was I thinking?’ Project, or it might be epic. Diving in and enjoying the process.
I’m working on lots of different things at once: several Bonnie Hunter designs, quilts for high school grads, a Drunkard’s Path quilt, playing with my Accuquilt Go! I think my favorite (today) is Bonnie’s Tumolo Trail.
I am currently piecing too many quilts to remember and and have several ready to be longarmed. Ordered a new pantograph of music elements that I am looking forward to trying next.
I am working on a wall hanging out of t-shirts. I machine quilted it and now I am hand embroidering it. This is a surprise for a friend.
I’m almost (borders to go) finished with an Oriental panel quilt that will be a Christmas gift. Took some time off from that to design and sew a Halloween table runner.

Just completed a mini quilt for a swap/fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Awareness. I liked what I did so much I am making a second one for myself.
Right now I am getting ready for our annual retreat and am cutting pieces for a scrap box quilt. Since our theme is black and white we are using blacks and whites for the background on this quilt. Can’t wait to get sewing!

I’m currently working on Forest Friends. Love the way the colors come together to form the critters. I like my colors and fabrics I picked, but am still astounded at how well the different combos give each critter character.
I’m working on two carpenter’s star quilts – one is red/orange/yellow and the other is tan/red/blue. Hoping I can get both tops completed at retreat in Montana next week!

Although I have many ongoing projects, I am working on Sue Spargo’ s “Cuppa”, a red and green hand applique quilt using block designs from the 1850’s and just finished a Spiderweb top made with Halloween fabrics that I am going to machine quilt. I would love to win! The book looks wonderful!

This is the first time I am visiting your blog and I scrolled further down and saw your post about your shop closing. I am living in the southwest corner of Norway, where the oil industry has been thriving over the last 30 years and we are currently struggling in many areas due to the downturn. BUT – when one door closes, there will be chances of others opening! They might be hard to spot at times and sometimes you have to fight to get your foot in the crack…but I wish you all luck and I hope to see some positive news shortly!

I’m also making a baby quilt with an owl in the center & the outside border will have some “Crumb” Pieced blocks from an Ami Sims workshop I took this summer. I’m trying to finish up a red, white, & black quilt for my grandson & a blue & white quilt for my grand daughter, made from my LQG’s BOM last year (& I’ve started the BOM for this year). I also have a Judy Niemeyer quilt underway!

I am working on a half-square triangle quilt made with my hoarded bits of Umbrella Prints from Australia, with some added Doe fabric and a bit of Joel Dewberry. SO relieved that I’m loving it.
