Scott Hansen. Dang this guy is wildly talented, eclectic, with an eye for design. In my world talent means a lot of hard work, choosing a path all your own, making the things you seen in your head come to life in actual quilts. This line, Tie One On (Banyan Batiks, a division of Northcott Fabrics), reminisces of ties gone by, a bit of 1950’s/1960’s ties, when martini’s were cool, think Rat Pack but cooler.
I’ve been sneak peeking a quilt made with the Manhattan color way. Being a New York City dweller, and a drinker of Manhattans this seemed a good fit, adding in two of my favorite colors lime green and purple.
Since I’ve already reviewed the fabric line, I thought for the blog hop interviewing Scott would be a bit of fun. Stay tuned to the end for the coffee clatch Saturday to win a bundle of fat quarters.

Teri: What product do you use to keep your moustache curling so well?
Scott: Pinaud’s Clubman Moustache Wax and Got to Be Glued Hair Glue
Teri: What is your favorite home cooked meal?
Scott: Hard to pick a favorite for me. I do like homemade Mac and Cheese with Kielbasa in it … and Coconut Cream Pie.
Teri: How long have you been quilting?
Scott: First Quilt 1978 – Second Quilt and then all of the rest started around 1990-1991. You can do the math.
Teri: How did you get started quilting?
Scott: Well, my first one was because I wanted something old-fashioned and we didn’t have anything like that as a kid. So my mom helped me create what we thought would be a quilt – in hindsight it was a comforter because we tied it, but it worked for what I wanted. Later as an adult, I had started collecting some vintage quilts and then I realized that I could make more myself and I could do them just as I wanted. So that was essentially the beginning.
Teri: What sewing machine do you stitch on?
Scott: Currently a Brother Project Runway model.
Teri: What machine do you quilt on?
Scott: When I don’t quilt by check, I will quilt on my Juki – don’t know the model.
Teri: Favorite beverage while quilting —
Scott: always Diet Pepsi.
Teri: Favorite fabric line(s)
Scott: Besides Tie One On? Let’s see, I am liking the new FIGO lines (another new division of Northcott) — anything by Anna Maria Horner and Tula Pink — the Moda Grunges with Dots and those with Stars.
Teri: Best teaching gig ever?
Scott: Well, this has to be the Quilters’ Affair event in Sisters, Oregon. A week full of classes just before the big Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show on the second Saturday of July. Next year will be my 8th year I think, and I look forward to it now just as much as I do every year!
Teri: One place you’d like to go for quilting inspiration?
Scott: The countrysides of Europe-Britain, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Denmark. Not too interested in the cities (well the Italian ones maybe) but I really want to visit all of the villages!
Teri: Inspiration for your fabric line?
Scott: Vintage Necktie designs. I just kept drawing and playing with various little motifs that I pulled from an assortment of different neckties in my collection and from images I gleaned from online. I would look at images then later sketch out variations and then keep extrapolating lines until I came up with something that I could call my own.
Chase is the name of the quilt I made for the blog hop. I started with the intention of making log cabin blocks using 1 1/2” strips. You can see some making pics here. While getting ready for a chat with friends I realized something wasn’t working, and what went wrong. Eh, whatever it’s something of a happy accident. While holding a block in my hand and showing my friends the fabrics in that block seemed to be chasing one another so, Chase it is.

My favorite way to celebrate my birthday is lunch at my mother’s house. I enjoyed the interview.
Celebrating my birthday with my favorite “firsts”, my family is a party extraordinaire. Having the day to myself doing fun things like meeting new people and seeing refreshing designs as above make for a happy day.

I like subdued celebrations and am oh so happy just to have warm greetings from friends and family.
Favorite way to celebrate … shop hopping of course. I like to take the day to myself, visit all the shops I can, then my favorite meal and a favorite beverage. I may or may not buy a thing. It’s just a day to be, to enjoy, and relax.
Hanging with the family. My husband has a sweet card on the table and a strong pot of coffee waiting for me when I get up. Life is good!
Sharing the day with grandson, as birthdays are 1 day apart and involves dinner out with the family.
My favorite way to celebrate my birthday is taking the day off work and just relaxing. Usually I end up making dinner still but for the most part I try not to do anything!

MY favorite way is with my kids. My girls are adults now and having them take their mom to dinner or buy a gift is the best. Love being loved.
I like a rib eye cooked medium, baked potato and a glass of wine. Come get me from the sewing room when it is on the table.!
My favorite way to celebrate my bday would be a little hike around the lake or on Turtleback Mt. followed by some yummy food ( Curry or Mexican). Family dinner together is the cherry on top. Love the Chase and of course Scott’s fabric line is great.
My birthday is Saint Patrick Day so I always have a great reason to celebrate, green beer and a parade.

For one birthday I went skydiving with my brother in tow. One birthday was spent on a cruise with some friends. Several I spent at Bar Louie celebrating with friends and cupcakes. My siblings, friends and I go to a family lunch for each of our birthdays. So I would say I like celebrating my birthdays with family and friends.

my Birthday happy place/time has changed as I have gotten older. I used to pick out a place in the US and we would go there…in a Peterbilt. Since my husband passed away I’ve only had one birthday. I spent it at home with my doggies. Had a lovely time. Not able to afford what we used to do,. No matter I am happy and contented with what I have and how life is.
I share a birthday with Disneyland so I love to spend time with the mice and feel young again. I enjoyed the interview with Scott and count myself lucky to have taken a few classes from Scott in Sisters, Oregon.

My favorite way to celebrate my birthday is with family and a good chocolate dessert. This year, however, is a landmark birthday for me, and I hope to celebrate it very low key. Maybe some chocolate and a little wine.
I love to take one of my nieces out to the beautiful Rocky Mountains just outside of town. It’s like a mini-get-away only and hour away!

My Birthday is in January and we were always snowed in as a child. Did not have a party until I was sixteen. I like to be alone or with close family if they are around, order a pizza and watch a Film Noir Movie. Scott’s fabric reminds me of those old ties from the movies. Older than he is however.
