My first big teaching gig happened with AQS Knoxville in 2011.
I’m going to pause here for a moment and share with that the Golden Hour is about my favorite time of the day. And it’s bigger in TX.
Now back to our regularly scheduled program
There are a few big highlights: I met Karen K Stone, Laura Wasilowski, Kim Brunner, Kathy Sawyer, and Paula Reid. There were great students, cupcakes from this really neat bakery, and I seem to remember Karen having fish tacos one evening that had some good heat to them. Paula took me under her wing as something of a mentor and friend. We were both surprised and delighted that we were at the Dutchess Heritage Quilt Celebration. One of our funnier moments happened when the GPS told Paula it would take her four hours to get to the restaurant 10 minutes away.
After her favorite quilters discs with some kind of dense foam stopped being manufactured Paula found and worked with a manufacturer to create the Batt Scooters, the only machine quilting aid I use to grip the quilt under the needle My hands get hot, so wearing gloves doesn’t quite work. They also allow my hands to rest so I’m not trying to push the quilt around so hard and my shoulders can relax, easing the tension.
Paula, to me, is steady, brave, bold, and so kind. She’s willing to learn new techniques to teach, simply moving forward with the work of it all. And in the last couple of years she’s taken to running, including at least one marathon that I can remember. WOW

Teri, there are so many quilters that have inspired me. I can’t just name one. Each and every one of them have taught me so much in their own style. Here is my list. Debby Brown is at the top of my list. Cindy Needham, Ricky Tims , Kim Brunner, Bonnie Hunter and Lisa Hagstog. There a more, for sure. Looking forward to reading your new book. Congratulations!
One artist that has inspired me (and kept me inspired) is Barb Stanbro from the Cat Patches blog. I love her work (she does embroidery as well as quilting) and I especially love her “Pawtraits”. I read her blog every day to see what she is up to and she always makes me laugh. Thanks!
My favorite quilter is Judi Madsen from Green Fairy Quilts. I wish I had a quilt worthy of her quilting! LOL!

Although I have many favorite fiber artist I think Loa Jenkins has been the most influential because she gave me the freedom to push the limits and experiment with out fear of mistakes.
Lori Kennedy is inspiration for me. She encourages artistic doodling in preparation for fmq. The doodles are works of art! And they really do help with my quilting.
I am continually inspired by Victoria Findlay Wolfe.
I am inspired by Laura and Linda Kemshall who are artists in the UK..
Judy Dales was the first to take my breath away with a quilt.
I love Rachel Hauser’s style of patchwork and her work with color and fabrics!
I love reading Jenny of Elephantz blog. Her posts are very inspirational and touch me deeply, sometimes making me smile, sometimes bringing me to tears, but always giving me pause to think, often giving me ideas on what I can create for others to enjoy.
I love Bonnie Hunters down to earth approach to scraps, and just about everything else!
