An Interview With: Linda Pearl of One Quilting Circle

I don’t quite remember how I met Linda, it’s one of those relationships where I’m not quite sure that matters. Linda and I talked on the phone a few times about quilterly business stuff and have simply connected. Linda is a key behind the scenes person and a fab quilter.

How did you start quilting?
I’ve always been fascinated by the colors and the texture. And I had 2 sons, so my home for many years was the place of sports, scouts, flannel and all things boys. I craved the female connection I found with quilting, and have made many friends, and learned a lot along the way.  I’ve been in this house for over 40 years, and I began with a tote bag behind a chair to hold all my quilting supplies. Then I got a corner of our bedroom – and it kept on from there.

Gnomie

Did you sew before this?
Not really. I come from a time when you had home ec in school, and although I loved the cooking classes, I detested the sewing classes…constantly fought with the bobbin and the tension in my singer.  I ran long and far away from that…

What do you stitch on (home machine, long arm)??
I have 2 Janome machines – the 4800 and the 8900. I use the 8900 to quilt on.  I outsource bigger pieces.

Favorite beverage to quilt with?
I don’t eat or drink in the sewing room…sometimes water.

What thread do you use for piecing? For quilting?
AH, the question that launched a blogpost. Aurifil 50 weight is my clear preference for quilting, working through a stash of Superior for piecing. But I feel like I’m being unfaithful.

Playtime

Favorite Fabric line?
For a very long time, almost every fabric I picked up was Timeless Treasures – it got so that I could predict it before I looked.  Obviously, Island Batik – – I have a 10 lifetime supply of it. And then Hoffman and Art Gallery.

Favorite color?
Turquoise

Best meal you’ve ever had?
I guarantee it was something someone else cooked, and probably after a long day on my feet. Right now, nothing comes to mind.  Christmas Eve dinner 2018 at my house – take out Chinese.

Tell us a little bit about the work you do for your customers.
My customer work right now all derives from the business side of the house – the left brain stuff (which pays the bills!). I work as a business consultant/social media resource for customers who understand that they need to do it, but they don’t know how – or have the time/inclination to do that.  I can also help to craft a media/email marketing campaign for a business that’s trying to grow from a pop up from show to show into a program to drive business year round.  I am working towards scheduling time in my week to be able to play in the creative world.

How did you get started doing this?
I knew long ago that I wanted to do something in the quilting world when I retired from accounting related work.  I am fortunate that I am able to do this – although the rumors that I am somehow retired are laughable.

You can find Linda at One Quilting Circle and on social media, and again on social media.
Thanks so much Linda.

Happy Stitching,

Teri
