Sew Pink, byAnnie, & the big C

This is by far one of my favorite images of Jake. A literal snort take. I have zero idea what was being said that made her laugh so hard and I’m glad I caught it. Jake and I were having some preboarding meal at Pappadeaux’s at the airport on our way home from Fall Quilt Market. Later that year or the next, I’m not entirely sure Jake was diagnosed with breast cancer. She share’s her story on Mama Makes Quilts. While I do miss Generation Q Magazine ever so much, having Jake around is way more important.

When the creative community is asked to sign up for SewPink we’re asked to say what type of cancer we’re going to talk about and bring awareness to…it’s a fair question. What do I choose though? Well Annie & her team at byAnnie thought this way through, making a place for a wider range of discussion. If you would be so kind take a moment to check out the other bloggers participating in SewPink.
In my own family there’s been lung cancer that metastasized to other places in the body.
Prostate cancer, that again decided that there was need for more than one residence in the body.
Brain cancer.
Colon Cancer.
Tongue Cancer.
Skin Cancer.
Cells in the body doing funky things.

I chose A Place for Everything 2.0, because who doesn’t need a place for everything?! Christina Cameli’s Moongate line, in 10” squares, is perfect for this pattern. I pulled a bunch of squares to make the yardage I need for all the pieces. Then I took about a yard or so of fire & ice (Maywood Studios) designed by Michelle Freedman, for the inside voice (fabric!). Oh my goodness I love this line. This will get done because I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED this. In the meantime here’s a little something I made with some of the fabric and Soft & Stable because I needed to make something quick! And because I have enough of the other fabrics involved.

I made a little something to carry different weights of thread and needles to take with me when I teach. It still needs binding and a closure. I’ll post the finished project on Instagram. There are pockets, and a place for snips, and pockets. and pretty fabric!
Permit me if you will to return to the cancer part of this. Cancer can devastate a family in oh so many ways. As makers we are helper types, our presence is the best help, doing dishes, laundry, mopping floors and chattering away about everything.

May this October time of SewPink with our friends at byAnnie allow us to enter into deeper relationship with our friends in need.

Happy Stitching,
Teri

  1. Thanks, Teri, for helping us spread cancer awareness during our annual #SewPINK initiative. I can’t wait to see your finished A Place for Everything 2.0 — it’s going to be SO fabulous made in all those fun fabrics. And, yes, you NEEEEED it to hold ALL the things! I’m so glad to know that Jake is doing well, too. All my best to all!
