Sew Pink – A ByAnnie Event

Hey Friends,

It is nearly midnight central time and I took the final stitches on my project for the Sew Pink Blog Hop. In the last post I shared some thoughts on what I might make for this and the project took a left turn on Friday right as I packed to go away for the weekend. So of course there’s been a mad dash to finish and take some good images. That will happen in the morning.

I loved making this design-on-the-fly journal keeper. If you’re wondering, yes I still journal.

When I began this venture I thought I’d use this pump primer sewing, quilt it on Soft & Stable, and make new purse, because I’m sure I need one. While I was enjoying the quilting, it wasn’t quite right.

Then I found this 10” Moda Layer Cake called Bloom designed by Maureen McCormick, this reminds me of clothes I’d wear as a kid so. . . Plot Twist!

Wonder Clips are handy for tiny binding, sewing zippers and holding up quilts.

I love that there is Sew much Pink in this Bloom, and did I mention the orange? Oh my gosh this line brings such joy!

This is the 10” square chosen for the front, I love the interplay of the floral and the plaid.

Couple of tips: when stitching in zippers for pockets leave some room where another seam will join in, I broke two needles in less than five minutes because the zipper was too close to the edge.

Using Fusible Interfacing really helped give the book cover body. I will order more for future projects, that’s for sure.

I may make this again sometime soon further tailoring it and writing out the directions. When I design on the fly things go weird and the construction has a rather unique flow.

Over on the Sew Pink Page are links to other Makers participating in the blog hop. Thank you ByAnnie for inviting me in and providing many of the tools to make this On-the-Fly Journal Keeper, it is a delight.

Several friends have had breast cancer and live to tell their story. Jake Finch shared her journey on Mama Makes Quilts. As a writer Jake is honest and raw. I’d love to do a PSA however this isn’t my style. What I would like to do is express my deep gratitude for Annie Unrien seeing a need and taking action in part by gathering people to share in getting the word out.

Happy Quilting!

Teri

  1. terryknott – I enjoy the process of making a quilt from start to finish. It is fun to use a variety of fabric types from batik to Civil War reproductions--although not in the same project! I ALWAYS have more projects started than I finish these days and I'm trying to turn those works in progress into finished quilts.

What a great finish! It has it all and I sure related to the fabrics as clothes that I would have worn as a kid!!!
