But not necessarily in that order. Here is the finished Serendipity As Well. I popped it into the mail yesterday and by the end of the week it should be in MA, it's new home. When I started Serendipity As Well the intention was to make a small quilt for Pokey Bolton's new office at… Continue reading Modern Quilt and Serendipity As Well

AQS Knoxville Quilt Show 2011
This trip confirmed for me that teaching and sharing the wonderment of quilts is the right career for me. To say that I enjoyed this trip is an understatement. Bonnie Browning and the staff of AQS made it easy to just be the teacher. My sweetie dropped me off at LaGuardia Tuesday morning. While I… Continue reading AQS Knoxville Quilt Show 2011
Of lint
I've had a lot more lint than this in the bobbin area. When I first bought my Bernina 1080 it was something like 6 months before I could take the guide class that comes with the machine. So when I learned how to take the stitch plate off and holy schmoly it was linty! I'm pretty… Continue reading Of lint
The Quilt Speaks
I've been working on Serendipity As Well for a few weeks. What started out as an experiment learning, playing & practicing with Superior's silk has become a series with two (nearly) complete pieces. I have 3 pieces of silk left that will become part of the series. One is a cream & light brown plaid… Continue reading The Quilt Speaks
Sketching
As you know I participated in the Sketchbook Project with the Art House Coop in Brooklyn. I loved the process of sketching, of thinking through the process of how to get the images in my head onto paper and hopefully later onto fabric. I see the sketching/doodling process as a way to train my brain… Continue reading Sketching

Mini-groups are hugely helpful. This time I talk about finding your own quilterly voice. If you subscribe to The Quilt Life… Continue reading The Quilt Life April 2011

New York Beauty Class in April
When I learned to paper foundation piece I borrowed Valori Wells "Radiant New York Beauties" from my friend Renee. She'd taken the class at the Country Quilter and loved it. I was inspired by her quilt and wanted to make a NY Beauty. I love the shape & feel of these blocks. I… Continue reading New York Beauty Class in April
Working on drafting a 5 pointed star for a quilt
One of the reasons why I picked up a compass & protractor set last summer is for this: I want to make a 5 pointed star for one of my quilts in the "Twilight in the Bronx". Yesterday I figured it out. I'd been doing the math incorrectly. I'd been looking to make the center… Continue reading Working on drafting a 5 pointed star for a quilt
How I bury thread
When I first started machine quilting I would either back stitch or run the needle up & down in the same place to anchor the thread as I started machine quilting. Back stitching creates bulk and if I'm using a variegated thread can look kinda yucky. Running the needle up & down created little knots… Continue reading How I bury thread
