2/2/22

In just a couple of hours I’ll be teaching at Poppy Quilt & Sew.

I got to thinking about the definitions of my 2022 Word of the Year: Cultivate. (What’s your Word?) here are two parts of the definition:

to develop or improve by education or training; train; refine:to cultivate a singing voice.

to promote the growth or development of (an art, science, etc.); foster.

A couple of months ago a friend and I talked about root combing a process whereby a root bound plant has the roots gently opened out, shedding some parts of the roots, giving them the freedom to grow and develop in a new pot or in the ground. This process takes a little bit of time and gives the roots the opportunity to spread out giving a foundation for the plant to grow and get nutrients from the soil.

Part of 2022 is a Thread of the Week. Follow on Instagram for more.

Last week it was Twist 4017. This week I’m not sure as I won’t get into the studio until later this afternoon after I’m done teaching. Let me know what thread you’d like to see stitched out.
