getting healthy

NQR – health update

Mickey DePre was right.  I didn’t know how awful I was feeling until I’d been feeling good for a while.  I’ve gone from feeling generally blah to having energy like I did when I was in my 20’s & early 30’s.  I’m enjoying it a whole lot.

In addition to the re-found energy I’m walking on the treadmill again.  I loved walking when I was younger and I’m enjoying it now although I’m not walking around Americus GA!  I put on the tunes and walk, walk walk.  I’ve gotten up to a good middlin pace of 3.3 mph with a 3% incline I can easily walk 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 miles and hope to be up to 2 miles soon.  Bonus: my pants don’t fit so well.  I amused myself at MQX by having to yank my pants up as I walked around the classroom.  I’m going to need a shopping trip soon.

What I’ve found that has been rather surprising and quite enjoyable is that the amount of food I can eat and what I want to eat has totally changed.  Less coffee, more water.  Less sugary treats and more fruit & veg.  I found years ago that I do better with protein for breakfast – where I once had 2 or 3 eggs for breakfast I now have one.  It’s a change that I’m totally loving!  The thing is I thought for years something wasn’t right.  I struggled with weight loss for so long I thought it would never happen.  Now it is with some effort on my part and some not so much.  I’m setting what I consider to be a reasonable goal for getting healthier.

Off to do the treadmill and quilt!

  1. So Teri what changed? Did you just decide to change the way you eat and start exercising and that made you start feeling better? Or did something else happen and you are feeling better and are now eating better and exercising because you feel better?

    1. I had a hysterectomy in January. I had huge fibroids, since they’ve been gone I’ve been feeling so much better. 🙂

  2. I’m sooo happy to hear about your feeling so good and energized! Let’s go for a long walk together!

  3. I’m walking with you, even if it is a few states away! Happy healthies to both of us!

  4. Teri, Woo Hoo! You go girl! (I know how this is. I had similar surgery for cancer five years ago and the energy level gain from getting rid of what is wrong is amazing!) Walking and quilting along with you. Cheers.
