I’m not entirely certain at this moment. In preparation for Easter I started sourdough sweet dough for cinnamon/cardamom rolls and honey nut rolls. In my food pantry I had these jars of hazelnut, pistachio and some other kind of nut in honey that looked so tasty it was imperative that they join the sweet dough party for Easter.
Wednesday morning – feed starter. Because the starter took up residence in the chill box for a couple of months this feed was both necessary and big!
Wednesday afternoon – make the levain to develop all the yeast. There is something quite delightful about this part of the process because the only way for this to happen is with food (milk and flour) and time.
Thursday – add more flour, butter, eggs, coconut milk, sugar, vanilla and cardamom. Why yes! I do add all of this to make a rich sweet dough.
Thursday into Friday – stretch and fold, trust the process, stretch and fold, trust the process, stretch and fold, trust the process. Despite what looks like patience in other areas of life it is not actually the case. Even when I make the usual yeasted sweet dough the waiting for the dough to fully ferment is challenging.
Friday evening – roll out the dough and add the stuff, put in refrigerator until morning. Did you know that after reading that brown sugar is makable at home I do that now? Add a bit of molasses to granulated sugar and voila, brown sugar.
Saturday morning – take out cinnamon rolls for the final rise and bake prior to leaving for the Easter Vigil Mass.
Saturday afternoon – bake. While baking make lemon icing. Powdered sugar, lemon zest and lemon juice. That’s it. That’s the icing.
Saturday afternoon – enjoy fruit of the labor.
Once all of this was done Audrey was fed and put back into the chill box. I am desiring to bake bread in the next few days however my Sweetie isn’t eating bread right now so baking bread just for me seems a bit hmmm, what’s the word? Much. Yes, that’s it.
Wow, where did the time go? I started this post a couple of weeks ago. I shared the photo of the shark pursuing creative brain with reckless abandon.
Now back to our regularly scheduled quilt content:
I made the backing for Split Complimenterity Redo Cherrywood Quilt using up stuff I had on hand and stuff that arrived in the remnant box. This pieced back is made in Lori Baker Style using what’s leftover and on hand. I love it as it’ll be a delightful alt view of the quilting once I get started. I’ve already decided that I’m going to use a bluer shade of purple Bottom Line for the bobbin thread.
As soon as I get started quilting I’ll be sharing photos on Instagram.
Happy Quilting,
Teri

Love your pieced backing!
