Pigs in a Blanket Quilting

Lorelai’s work has come up in my big picture book app more than once. Smitten with her quilted garment construction, it’s hard not to be smitten with her bravery in trying all things new in a quilterly capacity.

Lorelai use of photos to show the process is impressive, and completed with clear instruction. She uses “Tips,” “Notes,” and “Artists Choice” to offer necessary information for the artist to both hone skill and exercise judgement in making each project.

Y’all know me, the Dedication is that place in any book that captures my attention. She dedicates the book to her mom, “who let her believe that any goal was achievable.” A note to Lorelai’s mom, well done! The bonus is Carolina Moore’s Foreward where she says, “Though this book was written for beginners, it was not written by a beginner.” and “. . .Lorelai has managed to keep her beginner’s mindset.” This is a delightful way of looking at and acknowledging Lorelai’s great skill in the making she does. I mentioned above her use of photography to explain the process, it’s good. Lorelai presents with the experienced maturity of any quilt/garment teacher.

Upcycled Snap-and-Stich Chic represents this well by zhuzhing up a jacket with a quilted block on the back that can take on a variety of looks, depending on the quilt block used. The steps and tips Lorelai offers in the Quilted Tote take the time to make sure the Tote will endure and there will be little if any unsewing. Particularly while attaching the handle, how many of us stitched it on while the handle was twisted necessitating the unsewing and resewing of said handle. Lorelai’s First-Time Quilter’s Handbook is a fabulous addition to any quilter’s books that we go back to again and again.
