Two great things…one busy day

Whew!  Yesterday was a busy day.  I spent most of the morning working on blocks for a pattern for Benartex.  It was fun getting them pieced!

When the mail came yesterday I was thrilled to find this in the mail box.

I’ve known for months that this new magazine was going to be issued soon and it took me quite a while to decide to subscribe to it.

I have subscriptions to several other magazines and wasn’t sure about subscribing to one more.

Then I took a look at the Preview on the AQS site and realized this is not a typical quilting magazine.  It’s not all about patterns and fabrics and tools – don’t get me wrong – I LOVE fabric and patterns and tools, I’m a quilter after all!  This magazine covers (oh I can’t believe I’m going to do this) the quilt life.  For example, Libby Lehman shares tips for traveling as a teacher.  What to take for clothes, what information to have on your luggage tag etc. including the most important tip, they have toothpaste in Japan (this one came from her husband).  Jinny Beyer is interviewed and the best line in the whole article is where she’s asked about the distinctions between traditional, contemporary and art quilts…like Virginia Avery, they are all quilts and that the important part, how people get to the three layers is an added bonus.

As I’m now teaching and hope to continue to do so for a long time to come this magazine will be a valuable resource and tool.  Thanks to AQS, ARJJ (The Quilt Show) and Jan Magee (editor) for putting out a great magazine.   I’ve heard that the magazine will be available in some books stores, so check around.

Oh, one more thing I’ll have an article in the August issue.

Then when I got home from the quilt shop last night the envelope containing my new software came in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  My sweet dh installed EQ 6 for me and I started playing around.  There will be a bit of a learning curve that’s for sure, as there is with anything new.  I’m looking forward to the challenge and once I get the hang of it will hopefully start teaching.  Andrea Bishop, webmaster and software educator gave 12 steps for using EQ6 and I will be printing those out later and putting the copy in the book that I purchased.

I did figure out a few things and created a NY Beauty quilt…I tried to find where I’d saved it on the computer last night however was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tired to figure that out.  As soon as I do I will share it with you and what I learned on the way.  My goal is to be able to use this for the design work that I’m doing with Benartex.

Happy quilting!

Teri

  1. I love your N.Y. beauty quilt and would like
    to do one like it.
Would you be able to help me do it?

    Thanks for any help,
    Norina

  2. Are you aware of this? Click here: The Daily Blog. Ricky lost his Rhapsody quilt on United airlines and a quilt of Libby Lehman’s was there too.
