On Thursday I joined Amy Barret-Daffin, Marci Baker, and Joen Wolfrom to talk about color. This Creative Spark Mastering Color Confidence course has three 1-hour panels for $19.99, talk about value for money.
Sometimes pulling color together seems so challenging, yet in some ways it is as simple as pulling together our favorite colors and moving forward from there. One thing I’m bringing to the Color Theory 101 color course is a box of 64 crayons, complete with the sharpener. In mentioning this during the panel I got to watch Amy, Joen and Marci’s face light up with the same sense of joy and awe I notice in students faces.
Color is a language all its own that we learn by practice. We begin practicing when we are little. One thing it is essential to lean into, particularly when we get icky feedback, is what does our own heart tell us about the quilt we are working on. As we learn to listen to our own inner voice through the filter of what others say we have a better shot at developing our own color style, voice and way of quilting.
One thing I loved is that Marci went to a strong color knowledge source before diving into the world of teaching others how to use color to achieve really incredible looks in her quilts. Joen has a very similar approach. I learned a lot by listening to them talk on the panel and this actually gave words to some concepts I get in some way and yet needed good words for.
I’m going to record a few episodes for my YouTube channel soon.
Happy Quilting,
Teri
