A while back the founding members of one of the mini groups I participate in started a Calendar Challenge with the group. We each took 2 months and are working on creating a 12 x 12″ quilt for these months. As we meet casually the finish line has been rather casual.
The first month I have is June – for Fathers Day. My Dad was a photographer in the Air Force and loved to take pictures until just before he passed away. My younger brother snapped this shot about 1 1/2 years ago on a camping trip and I thought this is perfect for a little art quilt representing June. In honor of Fathers day, I love camping when we can go and I love to quilt (I think you know that already though).
This piece has been swimming around in my head for a while. It all came together this morning when I’d gotten a lot of work done on one of my projects and had a few free minutes and some Lite Steam A Seam 2. Began the process ironing sheets of fusible to the dark and lighter blue. Put them right sides together with the paper still attached and drew some mountain like shapes, rotary cut, and fused to the sunset looking background.
I wasn’t keen on a straight line between the dark and light blue and a slight curve took care of that. Next choosing a background to frame the piece. Now it’s ready to be quilted.
Happy quilting!
Teri
